It's a beautiful day

I can't believe it has been a month since my last check-in. I'm sorry guys, sometimes my head just isn't in the right place.
So has anything happened in the last 30 days, well HELL YEAH.
I can probably fit things into 3 categories, one being my job search, private stuff (past/present/future) and U2/Jay-Z concert which is in category of its own :)

So let's get the job thing out of the way by saying, I've got it and it is pretty much everything I've hoped for. Permanent position as a Senior Network Engineer with CDM, a company based in Sydney but with its branches throughout Australia. Now most of you have had a job interview in some way, shape or form in your lives and I knew that things work a bit differently around here which is my queue to thank Rudi AGAIN for coaching me through my resume editing and giving me just the advices I needed to secure my position. It was a 3 part interview, starting with a recruitment agent,as most positions around here are advertised through recruitment agencies. Putting on a proper suit and presenting yourself in the best way possible gave me the opportunity to have the second interview with Technical Services Manager at CDM and after his OK, I had my last meeting with General Manager, all in all resulted in me securing the position with CDM and I couldn't be happier.
The location of our offices are on Adelaide street in CBD, which is literally a minute walk from the bus station, and as far as the rest is concerned, let me just say I'm happy....I'm extremely happy :)

Now one of the reasons for our Australia endeavour was in better social and private life, and since we are surrounded by water it would be a sin not to go to the beach as often as possible.
After our more then successful attempt with Surfers Paradise we've decided to go see Collangatta expecting nice worm sunny weather and boy were we wrong. We do have summer showers and storms back at home but none of them can be compared to a proper tropical storm :) Driving 30km/h on the highway is an experience by itself :) As our adventure turned sour we compensated by enjoying the sun and swimming at Brisbanes City beach at SouthBank, I won't bore you with the details as you are all probably sick and tired of shoveling snow and playing "Cathc the croatian PM" or "A si jedla Sir?" :)

And now for the U2 concert. Yeah I know that a lot of you have already seen it in Zagreb, but imagine seeing the same concert without the need to go to Croatia. Now that is priceless by itself. Being used to pushing and shoving for a good spot we've come to the concert an hour earlier, also knowing that Jay-Z will open the show and didn't want to miss a second of it. Turns out that people don't do that hear which gave us the opportunity to come all the way to the stage and enjoy the concert front row....and being in the middle of the stage we had ample opportunity to feel the vibe, scent, breath of U2 .....it was without a doubt the best musical experience of my life so far. Jay-Z is the undisputed heavyweight champion of Hip-Hop,and I don't think there are many artists as big as U2 and with such great stage presence and charisma.

I think I just HAVE to take a moment to speak about our flatmates. Now you may have or haven't heard of them but they are both famous and infamous at the same time. Mark and Sharnee, just their names are enough to make your heart skip a beat and have your body shiver in fear and amazement at the same time ....HAHAHA......I know they're reading this and just had to do this :)
Guys wit the words of Freddie Mercury at the Wembley concert 1980 - You're great, we love you!

I wish I could write some more but I can't neither muster the courage to tell you everything nor does my memory (I am 32 afterall) serve me as It used to :)

I will however put some pictures on tomorrow, and add the Slovenian version as well.

Let me just leave you with this thoughts:
Last week - U2 , Jay-Z , 2 x Beach
This Week - birthday party friday , tea party Saturday
Following weeks - Beach BBQ party at Sunshine Coast , Camping at Byron for New Years :)

______________________________________________________________________

It's a long hard life

The life is just so darn hard in Australia. People are opening swimming season and are more or less enjoying the summer which is just around the corner. And who are we to judge them, ergo we did the same. Triple B: Beach, Beer and Barbecue :)
Hooked up with Tony and friends at Waxy's on Gold Coast and enjoyed a more then pleasant company with couple of beers.

Trojni P: Plaža, Pivo in Pikniki :) - prilagojen slovenski prevod ;). Preživela sva lep sončen sobotni dan na Gold Coastu in potem še prijeten večer s Tony-em in njegovimi prijatelji v Waxy baru, seveda ob obvezni prisotnosti piva:)

I won't bore you with details, so I'll just let the pictures do the talking.
Oh and one more kinnda important thing. I quit smoking...like I promised :)

We're BACK

It has been almost a year since our last entry. A lot has happened in between but the most important thing is that we're back. And this time we're here to stay.

We've arrived to Brisbane in the wee hours of the morning on 3rd of Nov after a stressful journey that lead us from Ljubljana over Istanbul, Dubai, Singapore to Brisbane where we landed at 2 a.m, exhausted and blissfully happy. Immigration and customs procedures were just a formality and minutes after touchdown we were sitting in our taxi going towards our well deserved rest in Central Base Hostel.

Being well organized we got up at 9 in the morning, making a bee line to our bank (ANZ) to provide them with proper ID to activate our previously opened Bank Account, and then it was straight to Europcar for our rental pickup. We knew that we were in need of a big car, for all the stuff we have to do in the first days and the plan was to do most of it with the rental (some furniture, phones, car shopping) and the car we got was a blast. Brand new Subaru Outback, space ship on wheels :)

Sending Mark an arrival SMS was just a formality and he greeted us with opened arms and mischievous green on his face :)
He showed us around the house, showed us the room and we were ready to start our lives.
Not to bore you with the details of our shopping spree let me just say we managed to get EVERYTHING done in the first couple of days and are now proud owners of a couple pieces of furniture (brought to you by IKEA) , new phone numbers (courtesy of Telstra) and a V6 4.0L Ford Falcon (thanks to Ted K of Benstead Car co. ).

Now to put everybody's worries to the rest. We are fine, we are great to be honest. If the first few day are in any way indicators of things to come, only good things are waiting for us.

Če so prvi dnevi v kakršnikoli meri pokazatelj prihodnosti, naju čakajo le lepe stvari ;) .

Oh, not to forget. We of course payed a visit to Rudi & Alenka, were we enjoyed their own Heineken like beer (micro brewery stuff) and had spent a pleasant evening with productive conversation, but I'll write more about that as the story unfolds ;)

Da ne pozabim. Obiskala sva tudi Rudija in Alenko in preživela prijeten večer v dobri družbi in ob njunem domače pivu, okus po Heinekenu).

I'd love to write more, but my stubby is not getting any colder and our deck is screaming for my company, in shorts and t-shirt of course :)

Here's looking at you ;)

Note to Airport officials in New Zealand....it is not a good idea to let 13 planes land within 30 minutes as it produces unbelivable hold-ups at the customs.
We've landed at half past 2 p.m. but managed to get out of the airport at arround 4 p.m. and to top it all they took out jar of honey :( apperently it violates their biosecurity laws....
darn. Kristie and Bryden picked us up with their UTE, which had a boat attached to it and there were also Clay and Jack with them, their foxterrier dogs.
We were a funny bunch at the airport, 4 people in a UTE with 2 dogs looking through the window and a boat at the back.......and since it was beer'o'clock :)
we've stopped at he Red Fox, a local pub where we opened drinking season....and let me clarify at this moment, that their beer is GOOOOD and it flows perfectly.
Our first impressions of New Zealand was pretty much perfect, and Kristie's and Bryden's hospitality was as expected.....great. They took us to Bryden's place which is a big gorgeous
house in the country some 60 km from Auckland, and it is surronded by green pastures as far as your eyes can see. Now living in the country is a bit different in New Zealand
as it is in Slovenia, but the basics are pretty much the same.....Bryden and Kristie are horse people and they own 4 horses, which they use for events and/or hunting.
We were all on a same page pretty soon and decided holiday should be mostly relaxing and just having plain fun...and that's just what we did...siping one beer after another
(or cider or bubbly or whatever came into our hands). We've drenched our thirst with beer and our hunger with the best Fish'n'Chips in Kaiaua, sitting on the beach while eating them and enjozing
the beautiful views of NZ. Took a drive to a nearby hill to see the beautiful view of the valley. And that's pretty much what we did for the first two days.
And so came wednesday, the day we departed to our beach house to start our New Year's celebrations. Whiritoa was the destination....and even though Kristie told us our house is pretty
close to the beach it was not what we expected. Literally meters from the sandy beach, 4 bedroom house, big garden, BBQ area.....fully equiped and furnished with everything your heart might desire.
You might imagine the smiles on our faces. :) We were joined by Dave and Trina which gave our party a bit more substance :). Some things are a bit blury which is a sign of having a good time, which
is exactly what was and still is going on....

We spent four days in Whiritoa, relaxing, swimming, sunbathing on the porch of our big summer house, fishing, drinking, eating and just enyojing ourselves.
We were a bunch of 8 people since John and Vicky joined us for the New Years Eve and we had lots of fun together.
We cought some nice fishes, had some bubbles and stepped in the next decade with great fireworks (Jasa was responsible for it and it was really spectacular). In the Next few days
we cought more fishes, among which was a Snapper weighing 4 kg, Baraccuda which we threw back in the sea because it is not good for eating, long eel which was funny to catch.
During our boat riddingfishing expeditions we saw 2 sharks (one nearly 3 m long), and almost caugth a really big kingfish which sadly run away :) It was really nice spending time in
New Zeeland with Kristie and Bryden,
but the clock is ticking and our departure is geting close. Thanks Kristie and Bryden one more time, you guys are the best. For the others - see you on the other side of the world, back home in Slovenia.
Bye Bye.

P.S: pictures will be available upon our return :)

nisva pricakovala takega luksuza.

sicer zabaven ulov a precej manj zabavna,ko smo jo zeleli spustiti....seveda ni razumela nasih "dobrih" namenov :).
Bye Bye

P.S: slike bodo na voljo ob najini vrnitvi
Last day of Brisbane and Australia was a nice one. Typical Sunday you might say.
We took a river cruise since the weather was nice, saw the city from a different perspective and it is a nice city. Afterwards we spent the most part of the day in Southbank,
enjoying the sunday market with its lifestyle stands.....Brisbane doesn't really have a beach so they "solved" the problem by making an artificial beach in Southbank,
and it is basically a huge pool with sand beaches, BBQ areas, entertainment for the kids, and relaxation area for everybody. Tomorrow we're leaving Australia and heading towards
the edge of the world aka New Zealand. We do have to get up at 5 a.m. though, but i bet its gonna be worth it as we both can't wait to see Kristie and meet Bryden.

Zadnji dan Brisbane-a in Australije.
popoldne. Jutri zapuscava Avstralijo in se odpravljava proti koncu sveta - Novi Zelandiji. Ceprav morava vstati ob 5 zjutraj se oba izjemno veseliva snidenja s Kristie in Brydenom....
