The ride to Batemans Bay was a short one. Batemans Bay is the most popular holiday destination for Australians and
it is a lovely coastal town, surrounded by gorgeus beaches, walkways with mangroves (trees that actually grow in salty water).
The weather is getting better by the day...today's temperatures were around 30, not a single cloud in the sky.
Our first stop was the YHA, a caravan park well hidden between palm trees, offering peace and tranquility for all
its occupants. Got the keys to our caravan and took a stroll around the town. And since it was still very early took
a drive to Pebbly Beach (not to be mistaken with its famous "cousin" Pebble Beach in California).
Now the Lonely Planet says the beach often provides a refugee for kangaroos and lizzards, but you can't belive
everything you read in LP. The beach is of course covered in white sand, bordered by an amazing forest.
Since there were no signs of either the kangaroos nor the lizzards we sprayed A LOT of sunscreen and enjoyed the sun.
And since the temperatures were more then friendly we had no choice but to go for a swim :) Yes...we swam in the ocean on
the 12th of December :) and what a swim it was....I will not bore you with the details. Afterwards we dried ourself
and what do you know....kangaroos...on the beach.

And i'm not talking about the small wallabies...hell no.
The Red kangaroo, 9 of them to be exact...grazing the grass not being bothered by the people at all.
Another of life remebering experiences from Australia. Since BBQ-ing is Australia's national sport, there is a BBQ area
in every place, and our Caravan park is not an exception. SO we bought ourselves some veggies, couple of burgers,
and threw everything on the barbie. Instant dinner....YUMMY

In ker ni bilo znaka o kengurujih, sva enostavno vrgla nase nekaj
litrov zaščite pred soncem in uživala v sončnih žarkih.

kupila nekaj zelenjave, nekaj pleskavic in vse skupaj v nekaj minutah pripravila v izjemno večerjo :)
MLJASKA.
Leaving Mallacoota. Starting practicaly at sea level heading towards Canberra, the capital.
The road takes you over Snowy Mountains on a beautiful highway, up to 1100m above sea level, when all of a sudden a whole
new world opens up to you. Vast areas of pastures and meadows that are a sight for sore eyes. Driving on
Australia's roads is an adventure by itself an mostly enjoyable experience. Much of it to do with their
driving manners. So what to say about Canberra. The city was "built" as a result of constant bickering between Sydney and
Melbourn as to which city deserves to be crowned the capital of the nation.
The city is a perfect example of form
following function as everything is placed just right. The streets, buildings and traffic...everything is designed
to perform a function. At the center of the city is the Australian Parliament, an impressive building thath houses
the government, house of representatives (among them is Tanja Plibersek of Slovenian descent) and the senate.

We've stayed in Canberra YHA a huge hostels with some 300 rooms and had a great bbq (barbacue) on the roof.
Organized by the YHA staff. During and after the BBQ had a pleasent conversation with Daniel from Germany who
just arrived to Canberra to finish his BSc Thesis in Aeronauthics...impressive.

Zapuščava Mallacooto. Najina pot se začenja praktično ob morju in vodi proti Canberri, glavnemu mestu.
In kaj poreči o Canberri?

Ceste,stavbe,promet...vse opravlja svojo natačno

Woke up in Lakes Entrance, it turned out to be a ghost city yesterday, since everything closes at 5 p.m. and people just disappear, the only things
opened are Fish&Chips bistros :) . Anyways...we're getting near the border with NSW and had just a couple of places we wanted to visit before spending
a night in Mallacoota. The first thing on our itinerary was Marlo Inlet, a place where Snowy River meets the Sunny sea, creating a beautiful
delta. Next were the Cabbage Palm Trees. Now some of you might wonder how somebody finds these Palm trees...well it's easy, follow the road signs
for 60 or so KM from Marlo, then turn onto a gravel road, drive on it for half an hour, and when a first wallaby passes your route you're getting
close. We ran into 2 before reaching the Palm Trees, and the whole ride there we were the only people on the road. Emphasis on people :)
The last thing of the day was Croajingolong NP (National Park) and the famous Point Hicks. It was the first piece of land that the crew of Endeavour layed their sight on. For the ingorants reading
this blog, Endeavour was a ship that brought Captain Cook to Australia in 1770. The scenery is beautiful but it takes a 60km drive on a gravel road to get there.
But it is a historic landmarks deserving of the walk/ride/hike :)
Tomorrow we leave Victoria and head towards Canberra, the politics city of Australia.....till next time.

Day 5 , I think. Living Kilcunda heading towards Wilsons Promontary Park. National park that suffered a lot during the extensive
bush fires at the begining of this year,so we didn't really know what to expect. Boy were we surprised. Nothing could
prepare us for the wonders of the nature. Took a couple of day walks and walked 4 hours alltogether. The walk took us through marshes,
swamps, rainforest and sandy beaches. A couple of lookout points along the way took our breath away. We've also managed
to see a vombat up close&personal, a lizzard (don't know what type, but one huge mofo), seal, snake...all
in their natural habitat. Everybody that belives Maldives,Bali,Fiji...etc offer the most beautiful beaches in the
world should think again. Squiky beach at Wilsons Prom probably tops them all. Crystal clear water, white sand, beautiful rock
formations to top them all. Everything around us is so wild and untamed and yet so friendly and inviting.
I expected a lot of Australia but I must say that what we are seeing is beyond our wildest imagination.
Oh, and we've managed to put 610km under our belts within 2 days of driving, so i guess we're doing ok :)
Till next time,. All your base is belong to us.

Od blizu sva v naravnem okolju imela priložnost
videti vombata,kuščarja (pojma nimam kakšnega,a bil je ogromen), tjulnje, kače....fenomenalno. In vsakdo ki misli da so
najlepše plaže na svetu na Maldivih, Baliju, Fiji-ju naj še enkrat premisli. Squiky beach v parku jih po mojem mnenju vse prekaša.
Kristalno čista turkizna voda, snežno beli pesek in prekrasne skalne gmote ki objemajo to lepoto. Vse naokoli je po eni strani
tako divje in neukročeno a hkrati tako prijazno in vabljivo.
In do tega trenutka sva uspela v 2 dneh "naklepati" že 610km z avtom,očitno nama kar uspeva tole potovanje.
Do naslednjič....Pekarna MišMaš je z vami :)

And it starts. 8th of December. Raining. And the beginning of our Road Trip. Took a tram to the city, where our car was waiting for us.
Driving on the left in the city, while raining...add to that morning rush hour and you've got yourself a perfect recipe for
disaster :). But luckily GPS was our friend and we somehow managed to start leaving the city towards Phillip Island, some
120km south of Melbourne. Driving on the left is sweet and fun,but what is more interesting is the peacefullness of Australians driving.
No horns,no overtaking,no agression....lovely. Luckily it stopped raining just as we entered Phillip Island, since most of our activities were
outdoor. First we stopped at Koala Conservation Center, where you take a stroll through the gum trees passing several Koalas just resting
or browsing in the branches. Managed to see 13 Koalas up close and personal, came within CM of a Momma and Joey Koala (Joey as in baby).
The experience does leave you smiling for the rest of the day :). Since it was already middle of the day,we entered Cowes on Phillip Island,
where we re-stocked our stomachs and our car with groceries. Off to the Pyramid Rock, an interesting rock formation in the
sea, reminding you of a pyramid and a beautiful lookout point to observer the southern part of the island.
The Nobbies center, set in the westeren part of the island gives you a first hand experince of fur seals, which call the rocks outside
Phillip Island their home. Their numbers are counted in thousands,as well as the seagulls as their company :)
We literally saw thousands of nesting seagulls, and managed not to get shat on :)
And finally the masterpiece of our visit to Phillip Island, the crown jewel - Penguin parade.
Each evening after the sunset several hundred Little Penguins (their acctual name), come ashore after a day of feeding
to take care of their eggs or young ones in their burrows. The penguines are the smallest species of penguins in the world
measuring just up to 33cm in height and weighing up to 1.2 kg. They wait for the sunset and gather in rafts (group of penguins in the water) before they
take their trip inlands. Even though taking pictures is strictly forbidden as this is a conservation site,we took
the Penguin parade Plus tour, which puts you right in the middle of their path towards the burrows. And when i say in the middle you are
actually standing centimeters from the penguins. The rangers use the clicker to count their numbers,as part of conservation
process and tonight there were 654 penguines passing by our feet. The cutest and funniest animals in the world :)
All of this took some wind out of us and we drove to Kilcunda Caravan park, where we had a cabin reserved for the night.
Now most of us have been camping or staying in a caravan, but let me tell you guys, these can't compare to ANYTHING.
The caravan is more like a 5x8 beach house with ubelivable ocean views,AC, heated beds, TV,DVD,spacious living room.
Oh well....life just keps getting better and better. Until further news....i bid you farewell.

Pa se začenja. 8 december.
Skale okoli
Phillip islanda ponujajo prekrasno zavetje tisočim tjulnjev in spremljajočim galebom,ki tu gnezdijo. Glede na količino ptic, sva
oba srečna da naju ni nobena....no saj veste :)
ogrevanimi posteljami, tv,dvd, velika dnevna soba....skratka neverjetno.
Življenje postaja vedno lepše in lepše. Do naslednjič vama vsem želiva lep pozdrav.

Our last day of Melbourne and it was a busy one. Even though the weather report said it might rain, everybody told us
Melbourne weather is like a teenage girl, never able to decide what it wants. So we ignored the report and went stroling
down the city, firstly to Melbourne River Cruises where we took a Yarra river cruise which takes from city entrance at the docks
all the way to MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground),passing most of the historical places, since Melbourne was built around the
river. Oh yeah,we also passed Rod Laver Arena, where Roger Federer is giving yearly lessons to other ATP players.
Afterwards it was Royal Botanc Gardens time. It does pay to be a monarch, you get your face on the coins, your birthday is labour free day
and you get such gardens as Royal Botanic in Melbourne, which is too beautiful for words, but it does leave you breathless.
Neatly trimmed grass, enormous trees, animal life, we just sat on the grass and enjoyed our sandwiches.
Visit to Melbourne wouldn't be complete without taking a peek at Albert Park, the venue of Australia's F1 GP.
Set in a beautiful Melbourne enviroment with a lovely golf course. Passing the Albert Park finally brought us to St.Kilda,
the coastal part of Melbourne with lovely sandy beaches, piers stretching into the ocean, beautiful boardwalks, restaurants, amusment park,....
I could go on for days and days. Melbourne we thank you for your hospitality and wish you farewell.

nedelja, 6. december 2009

Let me start with some facts about Melbourne Zoo. It's in Melbourne.
We've spent a good part of our second day there and loved every minute of it.
It's just minutes from the CBD,layed in a gorgeous enviroment of Royal Park. Everything in it is centered toward pristine animal experience.
But the thing i loved the most were vast picnic areas, extremly friendly staff walking around the Zoo giving you insight information 'bout the displays.
It's one of those things that make the impression of Australia that much better. The people are IMHO their best asset.

Naj začnem z nekaj dejtvi o Melbournskem živalskem vrtu. V njem so živali. Nahaja se v Melbourne-u.
Večino dneva sva preživela prav tu in uživala v vsaki minuti.

Afterwards we took a tram to the Docklands. Prime spot for relaxing at the sea, eating, shopping, just enjoying the beautiful day. Amazingly enough its just cross the CBD. which means
that you can basicly to most of the sightseeing by foot. We ate a nice pizza in one of the best Italian restaurants and washed it down with icy cold lager.
If there is one thing this roadtrip is teaching us is that decision to visit Australia was one of the best in our lives.

Potem sva z tramvajem odšla v Docklands. Odlično mesto za počitek ob morju, hrano, nakupovanje enostavno uživanje v prelepem dnevu.Celotno
